‘Let My People Go’

Help Christians in Pakistan break free from slavery, and assist with their relocation.

When Christian refugees come to resettle and make their home in a new country, their culture is often vastly different to their own. Church culture is not exempt from this difference.

We recongise that integration can be challenging both for refugees joining local churches, and for churches striving to be adequately equipped to welcome and support them.

We connect with churches across Australia, working on furthering training modules to prepare the communities to receive refugees with cultural awareness and sensitivity. We also partner with other organisations across the world (Brazil, Canada, New Zealand) who are also facing similar issues surrounding a smooth refugee-church integration.

The following is a true story.

Sonya* is a Christian in Pakistan. She and her husband have 5 children. Because of their faith, they are treated as third-class citizens and finding work is difficult. They have no choice but to enslave themselves to the brick kiln industry where they wake up before sunrise every fay to knead soil and water into dough, making bricks. If they fail to meet a quota, their wages are reduced. If they pass away, the wages will fall on their children. Sadly their daughters were subject to significant sexual abuse and exploitable by the supervisors at the kilns. Their youngest daughter passed away as a result, and the father followed a few days later due to the weight of grief. Sonya is now left to look after her remaining children alone.

This family was rescued through Philoi’s partners. Their debt was paid, and they have been able to relocate to a safer location. We desire to further equip ex-brick kiln families/individuals to be able to thrive in Pakistan through livelihood projects and long-term recovery. There are many families in similar situation who are desperately needing help in attaining freedom from slavery.

The average cost to set a family free from slavery is $4,000 AUD. Would you consider rescuing a family in a similar circumstance?
