Zainab’s Fight for Freedom

Zainab* is a 24-year-old Christian woman from Afghanistan.

She served in the Afghan military and holds a midwifery degree. Because of her role and her faith, she was targeted by the T*liban and received death threats. Still, she bravely continued her work, hoping for a better future for her country.

“I was interviewed on television where I shared about my military service – before the T*liban had overtaken the country. They asked me dangerous questions, like what my thoughts on ISIS were. I shared them willingly, not knowing that they would soon put my life, and my family’s life, in danger. The T*liban began to start sending threat letters to me and my family.”

After the fall of the government in 2021, she was forced to flee Afghanistan. Her father helped her escape to Pakistan – but sadly, he passed away soon after that.

“My father and I made it across the border to Pakistan with huge difficulty. He was weak, but he worked so hard to earn some money so that he could help me leave because he knew the T*liban were pursuing me. He wanted me to live in safety, to continue my education. But he could not bear all the hardships and fell ill. Eventually, he left me forever.”

Now, Zainab is alone, unable to contact her family back home for fear they will be harmed because of her.

In Pakistan, she is still not safe. One day, her neighbour dragged her out of her home, publicly accusing her of being a Christian – something dangerous and illegal where she lives. But Zainab stood firm:

“I refused to deny Jesus because I know His way is truth and honesty.”

WHY WE ARE DEEPLY CONCERNED

“When I opened up to you…it helped lighten the burden in my heart. I felt heard, understood, and no longer alone.”
