Sanctuary Housing
Supporting newly-arrived and struggling refugees with safe housing.
Reference: 210-3
Many refugees arrive in Australia after years of homelessness, persecution, and trauma. Stepping into a new country can feel overwhelming, especially for families who have no rental history, limited employment or income stability, language barriers, and trauma adjustment challenges (including experience of domestic violence).
For newly-arrived refugees and migrant families, finding safe and affordable housing has become extremely difficult.
Philoi works with churches, property owners, and volunteers to provide transitional homes for families in crisis.
These homes aren’t just shelters. They’re places of healing, dignity, and restoration.
Women and children are becoming homeless, and migrant women are among the most vulnerable in Australia.
Sanctuary Housing offers a range of support services in partnership with local churches, including:
- pastoral care,
- job-search support,
- educational support, and
- opportunities for community integration.
This is an exclusive initiative delivered only through local church partnerships.
Sanctuary Housing offers more than a roof to those fleeing persecution. It offers belonging.
Your donation with enable these families to stay at the Sanctuary House (rent and utilities) and help get them back on their feet.
One generous family has offered their fully furnished home as a Sanctuary House for newly arriving families in Sydney’s western suburbs, providing accommodation at well below market rent.
If you are a church or individual with a property and would like to partner with the Sanctuary Housing Project, we would love to hear from you. You can also support these families by helping cover utilities or contributing toward their rent as they work towards their independence.
