In the book of Acts, after Saul (Paul) escaped persecution following his meeting with Jesus, the churches in Damascus and Jerusalem welcomed him and helped him find his place among them (Acts 9). Even though they were afraid, they chose to receive him with love.
This is a powerful picture of what it means to welcome and protect those fleeing danger.
