Agápai

Providing meals for Christians in exile, reflective of the early church’s practice of ‘Agápai’.

Reference: TBD

Agápai were small communal gatherings where the early church shared meals and cared for the poor. The word is a plural of Agápē, which translates to ‘communal meals shared in love,’ or ‘lovefeasts’ (Jude 1:12).

More than just food, these gatherings were expressions of Christian love, unity, and charity.

Through the Agápai Project, we invite Christians to follow their example by supporting churches to feed persecuted believers in displacement.

Why Agápai?

In 2022, Christians were harassed for their faith in 166 countries – making them the most persecuted faith globally.*

Discrimination and systemic deprivation can drive them from their homes, resulting in forced displacement.

Agápai is our response – a return to the early church’s practice of love in action. Through shared meals, we stand with our brothers and sisters who are in exile because of their faith in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.

How Does it Work?

Churches often serve as frontline responders in times of crisis, providing food and shelter for displaced believers.

"Many believing families call me, they even come to my house and ask for help. My heart aches for them, and they live in poor conditions. We do not have enough funds to support everyone. I feely very sad, there are many problems brother."

We partner with these trusted networks, enabling them to prepare and distribute meals to Christians experiencing hunger in displacement. These individuals are often unable to register, access, or benefit from any food assistance programs because of their status in the country and the level of discrimination that they face. We have many trusted connections, but the need is very large.

“It breaks my heart to see the living conditions for believers. We don’t have enough resources to support everyone. Families cannot afford bread for their children.”
