"He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you...and you are to love those who are foreigners."
Deuteronomy 10:18-19
World Refugee Sunday
Inviting the global church to pray and care for the forcibly displaced.
World Refugee Sunday was initiated more than 15 years ago by the Refugee Highway Partnership in collaboration with the World Evangelical Alliance to raise awareness and mobilise prayer for refugees and internally displaced persons worldwide. It aligns closely with World Refugee Day (June 20th), which was designated by the United Nations General Assembly to recognise the plight and resilience of refugees globally.
Since June 20th has been declared World Refugee Day by the UN, the Sunday before or immediately after June 20th is designated as Refugee Sunday.
It is a day for churches to collectively pray, reflect, and advocate for those forced to flee their homes. It serves as a moment of deep compassion, faith-driven activism, and a call for justice.

We invite faith communities to observe World Refugee Sunday by:
- Praying for those held in immigration detention and all displaced persons.
- Raising awareness by sharing stories of refugees and the challenges they face.
- Engaging young people and children in prayer, worship, and meaningful reflection on refugee issues.
- Taking action through support, advocacy, and partnerships with organisations working on refugee rights and resettlement.
If you would like to have someone from Philoi Global come to your church and share for World Refugee Sunday, please contact us today.
